From Stylist behind the chair to Hairstylist marketing mentor How Jodie found her calling in education!
Entrepreneurship is so much better with friends by your side! If you’ve ever been curious about how the small businesses in your community have gotten to where they are today, you are in the right place. In this series, you’ll get to meet your fellow YEG Entrepreneurs and hear their stories of launching a business, overcoming obstacles, and building a career they love.
Today, I’m sitting down with Jody Brown. Pour a cup of coffee and join us as we learn more about her business journey.
Hi everyone! I’m Jodie Brown, branding and Instagram marketing strategist for beauty pros.
I help hairstylists and salon owners ditch Instagram overwhelm and tap into the power and opportunity of social media marketing.
My passion is helping mentor beauty pros to work through their limiting beliefs, create a captivating brand identity and design a sustainable and effective marketing strategy.
Q. Tell us more about you! We’d love to know about your business today and the story of how you got there.
I have been in the beauty industry since birth (my mom was a salon owner) and have worked behind the chair for the better part of 15 years. I went back into doing hair after an 18 month maternity leave and 2 years in sales and had to build my clientele from 0… which is when I decided to lean heavily into marketing myself on IG and learned the hard way what worked… and what really didn’t. I love being able to take the guesswork out of IG marketing for hairstylists and give them a framework that helps connect with potential clients (or opportunities) using the platform
Q. Let’s dive more into the specifics of your business. What products/services do you offer? What do you do for your clients that sets you apart?
I offer both 1:1 and group coaching as well as online education. I am your business bestie and will be your BIGGEST cheerleader when you’re pushing yourself and building your empire.
Q. What inspired or influenced you to create your business?
I saw a real need and I wanted to help hairstylists push themselves and go after their goals
Q. What are you most proud of in your work?
Getting feedback from my coaching clients that they are more confident and have hit major milestones in business after working with me. Giving someone conference and helping them believe in themselves is the ultimate accomplishment for me.
Q. What is one challenge you’ve overcome as a business owner, and what did you learn from it that you can share with others?
As an entrepreneur there are so many ups and downs. Somethings work better than others and I think at first when you try something and it doesn’t work it can be really discouraging but I have learned that the best way to learn and grow is through imperfect action. I used to want to wait until something was perfect but I realized that perfectionism it’s just procrastination in disguise
Q. What is your favorite part of what you do?
The connections I form with my coaching clients and watching them win.
Q. What is one thing you do to set yourself up for success every week?
Ironically the things that are most important for me to have a successful work week have nothing to do with work. Making time to meditate and get enough sleep.
Q. What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
You only need to be 10 steps ahead of the person you wanna help in order to make a huge impact so don’t wait until you think you know everything to teach.
Q. Where can people find you to learn more? (Leave your email, website, social media handles, etc.!)

Choosing your location early is important to be sure you can book the location you love. It’s also important to keep the vibe of your session in mind when choosing your location.

The thought of scheduling your branding photography session makes your heart beat a little faster, doesn’t it?
A passion project of mine is to help others, not just business owners but anyone wanting to do or have more in this life, achieve their biggest dreams and goals. Over the past decade, I have developed some great goal-setting worksheets.
These worksheets will give you the tools you need to get a good start in the direction you want to go and how to get there. They will help you to feel less overwhelmed and give you some tools to use when you are feeling like you have a little too much on your mind.
