Today, I’m sitting down with Sherry Nelson of The Loft Hair Establishment . Pour a cup of coffee and join us as we learn more about her business journey.
Hi everyone! I’m Sherry, Owner and stylist at The Loft Hair Establishment.
I the mind behind everything Loft. From social media to working behind the chair, it’s me!
My passion is changing peoples perception of themselves through their hair! To show them what they have is perfection. Then that became a bigger passion when I opened the salon. I also became passionate about having a positive, fulfilling workspace for myself and my tribe. Q. Tell us more about you! We’d love to know about your business today and the story of how you got there.
A. >>>The Loft Hair Establishment is a dream I didn’t know i had. With the help of my husband and best friend, they made me realize that i always wanted this. With the closing of the salon i was at, and slim choices of where to go, opening a salon became an option. Over a year later and a few pandemic lockdowns under my belt, I wouldn’t change the choice to open a shop.
Q. Let’s dive more into the specifics of your business. What products/services do you offer? What do you do for your clients that sets you apart?
A. >>>We are a full service salon with spa services and a local/Canadian made boutique! We offer everything from haircuts to specialty colors, waxing to facials and natural products to home essentials. What sets us apart? Our dedication to the best, the best customer service, the best products, the best local companies, the best relationships. We have been able to curate the vibe of our space so well that you will feel it with just one visit.
Q. What inspired or influenced you to create your business?
A. >>> My husband. He inspires me every single day. He has such a strong mental game that i envy and he pushes me to be my best with every decision i make. He backed me when I didn’t even know i wanted to open a salon! Without him The Loft Hair Establishment wouldn’t be in existence.
Q. What are you most proud of in your work?
A.>>> I am most proud of the tribe we have curated. Curated may seem like an odd word here but bear with me. Curated to me is something that is carefully and thoughtfully chosen. From the ground up The Loft hair Establishment has been curated, from the AMAZING team of stylists who works cohesively to the clients they bring into our tribe.
Q. What is one challenge you’ve overcome as a business owner, and what did you learn from it that you can share with others?
A. >>>>Covid has definitely been a curve ball for a new business! we opened in November 2019 and had to close our doors march 2020 due to government mandate, and again in de 2020. I know this has been a struggle for all businesses, but as a new salon it was extra tough! What i think would be best to share from what i have learned is to be resilient and flexible. to be firm in your goal but flexible in your methods. This has helped us to roll with the punches and keep coming back stronger.
Q. What is your favorite part of what you do?
A. >>> I love getting to interact with clients. we are one of very few professional that include physical touch. Especially during these times when all people want is a hug. So interacting with clients and being a positive part of their day would absolutely have to be my favorite part.
Q. What is one thing you do to set yourself up for success every week?
A. >>>every week i set goals and tasks. I am a forgetful person so i have sticky notes everywhere! by having lists i can see when things are accomplished and i can also prioritize what needs to happen.
Q. What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
A. >>>>Be firm in your goal but flexible in your journey.
