Today, I’m sitting down with Stephanie of Floral and Field. Pour a cup of coffee and join us as we learn more about her business journey.
Hello! My name is Stephanie and I am the lead designer for Floral & Field Design Company. We are a boutique floral design & styling company located in Langdon, Alberta. Growing up in rural Ontario I have always had a love for flowers. Nothing was more magical than walking through the forest and spotting a wild Tiger Lily growing or spending time with nature and helping in the family garden. Even back then I knew the magic of flowers! After studying interior design in Oakville, Ontario, and working in the interior design industry for over 10 years, I decided to go back to my roots and share my love of flowers with others. Flowers fuel my creative soul!
Q. Tell us more about you! We’d love to know about your business today and the story of how you got there.
A. At Floral & Field, our goal is to create artful floral pieces, inspired by wild gardens and our prairie surroundings for weddings and events. As a floral designer, my design style is inspired by nature using loose and organic form brought together by color and composition, creating a raw elegance in all of my designs. You can often find me in my small garden or often foraging for unique and textural pieces to create a one-of-a-kind bouquet or arrangement. These pieces also help to create movement, and will often dance as you walk down the aisle.
Q. Let’s dive more into the specifics of your business. What products/services do you offer? What do you do for your clients that sets you apart?
A. I love to work with my couples and make their wedding floral dreams come to life. Whether that be creating a wild garden-inspired floral arch just for two or single blooms that dance down multiple guest tables. There is a lot of thought and intention that goes into the selection of each and every bloom that will help in achieving the desired vibe and style for their moment. “Pretty is the result of great thoughtfulness and heart.”
Q. What inspired or influenced you to create your business?
Q. What are you most proud of in your work?
A. When possible I love to source beautiful blooms from local flower farms. This way I am working with the freshest, vibrant, and in-season flowers. I tend to gravitate towards more feminine and delicate blooms. I love mixing and combining bold colours just as much as I love creating nude tone-on-tone arrangements. I like to compliment my bridal bouquets with beautiful ribbons or use unique vessels for my arrangements. These items are the finishing touches that help to create a fully designed and thoughtful experience for my couples.
Q. What is one challenge you’ve overcome as a business owner, and what did you learn from it that you can share with others?
A. I think one of the biggest challenges in starting my business would be getting my name out there. For people to know and learn that Floral & Field exists. It can be intimidating stepping into a very saturated market as the new kid on the block. However, I have had the privilege of connecting and collaborating with some amazing people in the wedding industry. We were able to build friendships and businesses on the theory of collaboration over competition. I truly believe that it takes a community of like-minded women to build each other up and cheer on each other’s success!
Q. What is one thing you do to set yourself up for success every week?
A. I could not live without my snooze button for email reminders as well as my Google Calendar reminders. However, I am also a HUGE believer in good old paper and pen. Creating a list so I can check them off is what gets me organized and through my week. Nothing feels better than checking things off!
Q. What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
For those who are just starting their businesses, “…Be brave enough to ask for more and disciplined enough to work for more.” I love this quote and every time I am brave enough to ask for more, I am blessed with an opportunity that I never thought I would have.I also strongly recommend connecting with local like-minded people who have the same passion as you. Start building your community and rise together!

A passion project of mine is to help others, not just business owners but anyone wanting to do or have more in this life, achieve their biggest dreams and goals. Over the past decade, I have developed some great goal-setting worksheets.
These worksheets will give you the tools you need to get a good start in the direction you want to go and how to get there. They will help you to feel less overwhelmed and give you some tools to use when you are feeling like you have a little too much on your mind.
